Yadea, China’s Largest Electric Two-Wheeler Maker, Enters the Japanese Market
China’s largest electric two-wheeler manufacturer, Yadea, is entering the Japanese market through its official importer, Hasegawa Mobility in Osaka. The company will launch its first electric moped in Japan, the PORTA, on November 1, with pre-orders beginning on September 1.
The PORTA is based on Yadea’s “Modern” scooter and has been adapted to meet Japanese regulations. It is priced at 217,800 yen, notably lower than electric mopeds offered by Japanese manufacturers, which typically cost in the 300,000-yen range.
Key specifications:
Category: Class-1 moped (under 0.6 kW)
Charging time: 5–6 hours (compatible with household outlets)
Maximum range: 60 km
Top speed: 35 km/h
This marks the first entry of a Chinese electric two-wheeler brand into the Japanese market.
Yadea is the world’s largest electric two-wheeler producer, with:
Over 17 million units sold annually
Exports to 100+ countries and regions
Cumulative sales surpassing 100 million units by 2024
Hasegawa Mobility sees Japan’s upcoming emissions regulations—under which gasoline-powered Class-1 mopeds will cease production in October—as a tailwind. Domestic manufacturers will introduce new compliant models, with Yamaha planning a release in FY2026.
