A Korean AI Chip Designer SEMIFIVE Expands into Japan with Tokyo Subsidiary

South Korean AI semiconductor design company SEMIFIVE announced on Dec. 12, 2025 that it has won multiple AI chip design projects in Japan and established a subsidiary in Tokyo, marking a full-scale expansion into the Japanese market.

‍ ‍

The company will develop high-performance ASICs (application-specific integrated circuits) for AI and data center applications. Some projects will incorporate next-generation technologies such as 3D IC-based advanced packaging, aimed at improving data-processing efficiency, reducing power consumption and increasing integration density.

‍ ‍

The newly established Tokyo subsidiary will serve as a base to strengthen relationships with Japanese customers and improve project management. It becomes SEMIFIVE’s sixth global location, following offices in the United States, China, Vietnam, India and the Czech Republic.

‍ ‍

CEO and co-founder Brandon Cho said Japan’s semiconductor market is growing rapidly due to rising demand for high-performance chips, government investment and efforts to build a stronger AI ecosystem. He added that the company aims to position Japan as a strategic hub and deepen collaboration with local technology companies.

‍ ‍

SEMIFIVE specializes in custom chip design for AI and high-performance computing (HPC). Through its new presence in Tokyo, the company plans to expand its AI semiconductor business with Japanese partners.
