A German Travel Platform, Omio Enters the Japanese Market

‍ ‍

Omio, a travel booking platform (Headquartered in Berlin, Germany; CEO: Naren Shaam), entered the Japanese market in March 2026. Founded in 2013, the company provides a multimodal platform that allows users to search and book trains, buses, flights, and ferries in one place. Japan marks its 47th market and its first expansion into East Asia.

‍ ‍

The entry is driven by the rapid growth of inbound tourism and the complexity of Japan’s transportation system. By partnering with JR and other transport operators, Omio enables international travelers to seamlessly book Shinkansen, buses, domestic flights, ferries, and Japan Rail Passes. The platform also supports 32 languages and 33 currencies, and offers “Omio Advance,” allowing train tickets to be booked up to 12 months in advance.

‍ ‍

Omio positions Japan as a key market in its global expansion strategy and aims to use it as a gateway for further growth in Asia, with a long-term goal of operating in over 70 markets worldwide.
