Swiss Intralogistics Company Kardex Enters the Japanese Market

Kardex, a Switzerland-based intralogistics solutions company, is accelerating its business expansion in Japan. The company has opened a new office in Tokyo and will provide warehouse automation solutions centered on AutoStore for the manufacturing and logistics industries.

Kardex Japan will exhibit at Factory Innovation Week 2026, to be held at Tokyo Big Sight from January 21 to 23, 2026, where it will showcase its solutions for the Japanese market for the first time.

As a global partner of AutoStore, the world’s leading cube-based automated storage system, Kardex has completed more than 120 projects across 21 countries over the past four years since 2021. Applying expertise developed mainly in Europe, the company aims to tailor its solutions to Japan’s business practices and operational requirements.

While labor shortages are driving demand for automation in Japan, high investment costs remain a challenge for small and medium-sized companies. To address this, Kardex offers the Kardex Starter Grid, which enables AutoStore systems to be introduced in a minimum configuration. The smallest system includes approximately 1,000 bins, three robots, and two ports, and can be implemented in as little as six months.

Kardex also provides its proprietary ROI simulation tool, StoreX, free of charge, allowing customers to visualize payback periods, space savings, and cost reductions in advance. Supported by a dedicated AutoStore R&D team, Kardex’s solutions can be seamlessly integrated with existing WMS and ERP systems.

Positioning Japan as a long-term growth market, Kardex plans to support warehouse automation through investment in local talent and the development of strong partnerships.
