U.S. Commercial Space Company Axiom Space to Establish Japan Subsidiary to Serve Growing Asia-Pacific Demand

‍ ‍

U.S.-based commercial space company Axiom Space will establish its wholly owned subsidiary, Axiom Space Japan, on July 1, 2026, to strengthen its presence in Japan and the Asia-Pacific region. Headquartered in Houston, Texas, Axiom Space develops commercial space stations, human spaceflight missions, and low-Earth orbit infrastructure.

‍ ‍

The new subsidiary will serve as the company’s regional hub, focusing on partnerships with government agencies, research institutions, and private companies. Key areas of interest include space hardware development, manufacturing, microgravity research, and orbital computing.

‍ ‍

Former JAXA astronaut Koichi Wakata will lead Axiom Space Japan as Chief Technology Officer for Asia Pacific. The company is also expanding relationships with organizations such as JAXA, Mitsui, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, and Mitsubishi Electric.

‍ ‍

By establishing a local presence, Axiom Space aims to support Japan’s role in the post-ISS commercial space era and provide broader access to low-Earth orbit for industry, academia, and government across the region.
