Denmark-based food waste reduction app Too Good To Go establishes its Japan subsidiary

Global Danish company Too Good To Go, the world’s largest marketplace for surplus food, has established a Japanese subsidiary in 2025.

Japan market strategy
The company will help businesses turn surplus food into value and allow consumers to enjoy affordable, high-quality food. The approach combines the company’s “win-win-win” model with Japan’s cultural value of “mottainai”—respect for resources.

Supporting national goals
Japan produces around 22 million tons of food waste annually, with 4.64 million tons still edible. Too Good To Go aims to support Japan’s 2030 targets: reducing household food waste by 50% and business food waste by 60%.

Global success and local plans
Having prevented over 500 million meals of food waste across 19 markets worldwide, the company plans to collaborate with Japanese retailers, restaurants, and food producers to replicate its successful model.
