Taiwanese Mattress Brand "SLEEPY TOFU" to Open First Physical Store in Japan in May 2025

Founded in 2018 in Taiwan, SLEEPY TOFU was born from founder Yu-Hao Chang’s desire to find a better mattress for his family. Collaborating with engineers and designers, the team developed a prototype and launched a crowdfunding campaign in Taiwan. The result was a huge success, raising approximately 90 million yen, or 6,000% of their original goal. This led to the creation of their signature product, the "Sleepy Tofu" mattress, known for its unique cube-patterned design resembling diced tofu.
All products are Made in Taiwan and manufactured in partnership with a long-established mattress factory. In addition to mattresses, the brand offers a wide range of sleep products, including waterproof pads, memory foam pillows, reversible comforters, and soft gauze sheets — all designed to bring comfort and "breathing space" to daily life.
In 2021, SLEEPY TOFU established an overseas division and began expanding to Japan and the U.S. Online sales in Japan started in 2022, followed by two successful pop-up events in 2024. Incorporating customer feedback, the company continued to refine its products.
Now, in May 2025, SLEEPY TOFU will open its first permanent store in Japan.
According to Japan country manager Seigen Shi, the brand's philosophy is simple yet powerful: “Becoming softer means living more easily.” SLEEPY TOFU aims not only to improve sleep, but also to enrich the way people live by offering “quality softness” in everyday life.
